Yet Another Reason Why I Adore Dr. Pink

I have already expressed my love for Dr. Pink. He is awesome. He is friendly. He is sincere. (And he is a breast cancer advocate...you just have to adore him.)

I don't know about you, but I cannot say that about many doctors. They all seem so rushed, like you are just a chart number, yet another patient to get out the door.

Not Dr. Pink.

I went in for my follow up appointment today, to have him check my incisions and my rash. The nurse, a breast cancer survivor herself, asks if I am better. I tell her I don't think I am better, but maybe she will think so. "No, you are not better. It looks worse. You haven't started radiation or anything have you?"

Um....No. Do I really look THAT bad?

In walks Dr. Pink, preparing to hear that I am doing well,  then he looks at my arms...my neck...

While shaking his head, he exclaims, "You are definitely not better."

Tell me about it...I hurt.

Dr. Pink believes I am allergic to something he used while prepping me for surgery. As he was writing my prescription, I told him the good news about my test results. He stopped what he was doing, turned around, and looked me dead in my eyes. "I am so relieved." And I believe him.

He then went on to tell me how proud he is of me for staying on top of this. I did not feel like he was my doctor, I felt like he was a concerned grand father, complimenting me for using my *minor* control freak tendencies to make sure I get the best possible care.

As I was preparing to leave, he made me promise that I will continue to check in with him after I get to New York. I know that some people say that just to say it, but the way that he went into full detail, I believe he really does care to hear my story.

This appointment was not really important enough to write a blog about, but Dr. Pink's behavior is.

When someone takes the extra time and effort, it makes a girl feel good.

Let's hope the prescription Dr. Pink wrote for me makes me feel even better!

That is so awesome! Unfortunately, there aren't many of his kind out there. I'm so glad you had one of the good ones! Hopefully you have the same respect and sincerity in NY! Definitely something to be said for that kind of care, isn't it?!

Your comment comparing your doctor to a concerned grandfather made me think of (my uncle, your grandfather) Dean; he would have been the same way; and so proud of you for the fight, the courage, the determination you have shown. I've been following your blog and thinking about you often and keeping you in my prayers since I heard the news ... I know we don't know each other all that well but we are cousins after all and family always matters and is always there for you, no matter what. You are truly blessed because I know you have the greatest support system anyone could ever want ... Keep up the fight, cousin!!! I'm inspired by you!

Thank you for saying that he would be proud...it means a lot to me. You are absolutely right-family always matters. :-) Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!! XO

Brittany-This was definitely good news! Now if only we can keep the cancer away!!! Love. <3

Kaci--I have been incredibly lucky with my set up of doctors. I am hoping for the same in NY. I'm sure you see all kinds working in the ER.
